The Way of Wellness - The Moments

Writer's picture: Gloria HemphillGloria Hemphill

Whether subtle or blatant, heartwarming or alarming, moments can impact anyone on any day. I watch a video of my girl’s dear dogs doing dog things and my heart melts – a precious moment. I stand in line at the store behind a mother who verbally berates and demeans her teen son. At that moment, he hangs his head, and my heart saddens. This moment, his moment, was significant.

As Limitless Leaders, we have and will experience a multitude of moments. In addition, we are often exposed to the moments of others in our sphere of influence and community. We do our best to respond to and manage our moments daily. But what can we do for others whose next moment, good or unfavorable, is about to burst forth? These next moments either bless and positively affect outcomes or disintegrate and negatively impact a person’s equilibrium and the workplace milieu. The way of wellness may offer some balance.

The way of wellness is always poised for stability because it involves an attitude of guarding one’s spirit and soul from undue stress and anxiety. We achieve this attitude for ourselves and others by orchestrating what is best for one’s well-being. As moments come, be intentional by leaning into love and understanding, responding to needs, and acting for the good of others.

Recently, I remembered hearing something breaking and suddenly, the crash of a massive oak tree landing on our deck during Hurricane Helene – a terrifying moment. The next moment was comforting – we were unharmed & safe, and our home was preserved. A moment of thankfulness. Similar and even more catastrophic moments have affected the families of Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia. Moments that unfolded in the blink of an eye. Moments that changed lives forever.

Let us be cognizant of the moments of others. Let us continue to be kind and generous. Let us speak words of encouragement at home, in the workplace & our community. And let’s fill more of our moments with brotherly and intentional acts of benevolence and goodness. Moments matter.
